Ready to start feeding your cat Purina® Pro Plan®? Here are some things to consider when making the transition.
SWITCHING CAT FOODS
Selecting a new food for your cat is an exciting step toward balanced health and happiness. It is also a time of transition, so the process of switching cat food must be done thoughtfully in order to prevent dietary upset.
BEFORE YOU START
Although you’ll be anxious to see the difference your new Purina® Pro Plan® food can make in your cat, please allow 7 - 10 days to ease the transition from his or her current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more of the new food until you’re feeding the new food exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid unnecessary upsets.
In the guide below, blue represents the amount of the new food you should be feeding, and beige represents the amount of the current food.
Introduce new food to your cat in small amounts, still primarily feeding him his old food. Measure the amount of new food that you're adding in and make sure to remove an equal amount of your cat's current food. (For example, if you are adding in 1/8 cup of the new food, remove 1/8 cup of the current food.)
Feed a little bit more of the new food to your cat each day, while continuing to remove the equivalent amount of the current food.
Continue adding in your cat's new Purina® Pro Plan® food, and removing an equal amount of the current food. By now the new food should be making up the majority of your cat's meal.
Continue increasing the amount of the new food and decreasing your cat’s former food until you are feeding the new food exclusively.
Following these basic guidelines will set you and your cat up for a positive transition to Purina® Pro Plan®, and an extraordinary life.
